Los Picantes is a fiery latin jazz piece inspired by the human psychology behind eating spicy food. The piece was influenced by the hit youtube series, “Hot Ones”, where celebrities are asked increasingly hotter questions while eating increasingly hotter wings. Los Picantes initially misleads you by appearing to be calm and composed before catapulting into a frenzy of unpredictable musical chaos; similar to the human experience with spicy foods. This is accomplished by the incorporation of polymeter, dissonant harmony, complex rhythmic passages and spontaneous moments of metrical ambiguity. Los Picantes incorporates Latin grooves from multiple parts of the world including Guaguanco, Mozambique and Bolero. The premiere of this piece is in collaboration with the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Percussion Ensemble and the University of Costa Rica Percussion Ensemble. 歌舞伎俳優 松本幸四郎が2月16日「ブルーマングループワールドツアーIN JAPAN 2022」の制作発表記者会見にゲスト出演した。 松本幸四郎は2011年の日本公演を家族で見て以来「ブルーマンになってみたい」と公言してきた大ファン。 この日は自らのアイデアで髪をブルーにして登壇し、会見に訪れた多くのメディアを驚かせた。 会見ではブルーマングループの主要メンバーらと中継を結んで対談。 パフォーマーのパトリックから 「日本の歌舞伎に親しみを感じる」と言われると幸四郎は 「歌舞伎も最初はどれだけ人を驚かせるか、喜ばせるか、刺激を与えるかで誕生した生きた演劇。 『かぶく』という言葉があるが、それは「パンク」であり、「信念のあるワル」が歌舞伎の根本にある。ブルーマンも歌舞伎に近い存在だ」と返した。 そして「私自身もブルーマンになれる手段を見つけ始めました」と笑顔で締めくくった。 サプライズでブルーマングループ認定“歌舞伎界のブルーマン“として認定証が渡された。 「ブルーマンワールドツアーIN JAPAN 2022」は、日本の仙台を皮切りに国内5都市で公演。 その後、韓国、インド、中東、ヨーロッパとワールドツアーを行う予定。 ブルーマングループ公式サイト https://www.blueman.jp/

This work, inspired by Spanish Flamenco, was originally written for marimba and vibraphone duo by the influential composer, Emmanuel Sejourne. The tone of this piece is established by means of syncopated rhythms and fast rhythmic unison passages in the marimba and vibraphone parts, generating vibrant colors. This performance incorporates drums and bass as support to the rhythmic accentuations and Latin character of the keyboards in Sejourne's original composition.
